We've been enjoying the Summer Reading Challenge at the library. The theme this summer has been "Every story has a hero," and they have been talking about heroes and having courage.
A doctor came in to talk about how doctors are community heroes, and how we can help be heroes and take care of each other.
They had this cool height chart with the heights of all sorts of book and movie characters. I'm about the height of Elsa, H is the height of Flat Stanley, and C is somewhere between Olaf and a Minion.
Choo-choo! The boys love our little library! We've checked out so many books, CDs and DVDs this summer!
Some men from the local chemical engineering plant came and related all of the super cool experiments that they did back to super heroes. They made things grow, glow, freeze, harden, and explode, and all of the kids were totally enthralled. They took them outside to make diet coke explode with mintos (we plan to do this experiment at home too!),
They boys have been reading a lot for the challenge. The 25 point reward was a Super Reader yard sign. The boys were so proud. H is now up to about 115 points, and C is about 65. I think I'm at about 25 points. They get one point for every 30 pages read, and for every activity attended. I get a point for every 100 pages. I've read a lot, but it doesn't go nearly as quick as the boys! I wonder if I can count the points for the books I've read to them...
They made super hero capes and learned that being brave means having the courage to do things you are scared of.
Design your own super hero.
Super Hero letter signs.
They finger painted over their initial.
We love our library!
