Tummy Time

Tummy time on Harrison's new play mat. We were somewhat successful - he kicked his feet, turned his head, and fell asleep after all of that hard work! All while looking unbelievably cute!

Leonard had a somewhat different approach to tummy time... I am having a hard time convincing him that the play mat is not for him...

Don't cry over spilt milk....

Words of Wisdom from Leonard

Growing Up

All of the sudden it seems to me like Harrison has grown! Other people were saying that he looks bigger, but I didn't see it. I just assumed it was because I see him all the time that I did not notice a big change. Last night I put his pajamas on him. The same pajamas that are loose and too long on him - or that have been too long and loose - and all of the sudden they seem to be the perfect size!

Another development is that he is becoming an expert at finding his fist. He has gotten the skill of putting his hand in the mouth and sucking on it. One morning I woke up and heard a strange sucking sound coming from the cradle next to the bed and discovered that somehow he had gotten his hand free from his swaddler and to his mouth! He is not successful with this all of the time, but is definitely becoming more proficient. I would much rather him suck on a pacifier though....

And - he smiled at me! Twice! He has been smiling since the day after he was born, but only in his sleep. Today, I came up to him and started talking and smiling to him, and he smiled back! This morning and tonight, so I know that it wasn't just an accident! If that doesn't make all of the sleep deprivation worth it, I don't know what does!

A lazy kind of day

We spent the weekend trying to relax and be lazy! Harrison was the most successful out of the family.... While we were doing laundry (which I am amazed at how much laundry we do now that we have a baby!), dishes, preparing for church, etc., Harrison was sleeping, eating, and generally enjoying life!

One Month Old!

It's hard to imagine that one month has gone by! Time truly has flown. We have changed more diapers, had more feedings, rocked miles in the rocking chair, slept little, loved much, and gained more experience than we imagined we would have in a months time. But, we wouldn't change it for the world!
Leonard on the other hand is still not sure about this strange little creature who has stolen all of his attention and taken over his house!

Thanks Uncle Duane!

I know that not everyone will enjoy a video of our little guy having the hiccups, but this is for the grandparents so they can see his little movements and hear his little sounds.

So, enjoy! And, we will not be offended if you do not find this video just adorable...!

Night sounds

In the middle of the night, after feeding Harrison, I had burped him and he had fallen back asleep. I sat there for a few minutes taking in his smell - that soft, sweet, baby smell - and was listening. On one side, Nathan was sleeping - I heard his deep, slow, rhythmic breathing. On the other side (my other shoulder) Was Harrison's soft, quick, gentle breaths. It was so nice and comforting to be between these two patterns. Patterns one would only be aware of after the 2am feeding.

Motherhood does indeed have its rewards, last night it came in the form of my two boys breath patterns in the middle of the night.

We just need to add Leonard's purring to the mix....

Rub-a-dub-dub

We have done sponge baths and baby tub baths - and he did not like either of them. I don't know if the water was too hot or too cold, if he was hungry or full, but finally today we gave him a bath and he did not scream or cry! It was wonderfully peaceful for us, and he even seemed like he might have enjoyed it a little (although at this age it is hard to tell what they are thinking/feeling). But, it was so wonderful, we had to take a few pictures to document it!

Warm in Mama's arms!

After Harrison's bath, Daddy took him for a nice walk while Mama took a warm bath of her own! It is amazing how nice it was for me to take a bath with the door closed (because the cradle or swing was not strategically placed in the doorway with the sleeping baby) , without a draft (again, because the door was closed), and without having to hurry in case the baby wakes up! Small pleasures mean a lot now!

Little things

Some big hands to fill!

Tiny fingers.....

and toes!

Some Glamour Shots

The view from where I sit. I almost caught a full-blown smile! He was happily off in dreamland after a big lunch!

Looking so serious! He also gets this look when he is sucking on his pacifier. I'd like to know what he is thinking!

Cute baby! We are still trying to decide if his eyes will be blue or brown? The majority of both of our families have brown eyes, but Nathan and his daddy both have blue eyes. Right now they are the dark blue color that most babies have, we will just have to wait and see!

Sleeping Beauty

I know that boys are not supposed to be beautiful, but he is! He normally sleeps on his back, but for some reason in the afternoons he doesn't sleep for long on his back. So, if we put him to sleep on his side, he will give us a good long nap - long enough for us to get a nap in too!

Cheek to cheek and nose to nose

For the Grandmother and Great-Grandmother

Happy Baby = Happy Mama

I have been hearing about the benefits of a pacifier from the grandmother and great-grandmother at just about every visit or phone call. I was well aware of the benefits - as years of babysitting, nanny-ing and day care working has shown me. I just wanted to wait a little while, and was going to wait a little longer, but am glad that I didn't. Y'all can be very happy!

We are pleased to announce.....

...that we are the proud parents of an innie? outie? halfie?

You decide.

We were walking along....minding our business

Enjoying the nice weather with a walk in the stroller. We think he liked it - although he slept through the whole thing. The only problem with walking in the garden district is that the sidewalks, when they are there, can be uneven or have parts missing. Eventually we will find a route that works.

One cute/funny thing about our almost two week old is that most of the time when he burps it is a cute, small, almost dainty sounding burp. But, every now and again - to our surprise - he lets out a big manly belch!
I hope that he doesn't grow up to find burping hilarious like his daddy!
